How We Review
Development Projects
Friends of Deer Valley works with developers early in the process—before formal city review—to provide community-informed input and help strengthen proposed projects.
Our goal is simple:
to improve projects so they better align with the needs of the Deer Valley community.
The Process
Early Engagement
Developers are encouraged to meet with Friends of Deer Valley before entering the formal city process.
Project Review
We review project details and gather input from members and stakeholders.
Discussion & Feedback
We provide constructive feedback, identify concerns, and suggest potential improvements.
Ongoing Dialogue
Developers may refine their plans based on feedback and continue engagement.
Position of Support (When Appropriate)
When a project aligns with community needs and reflects thoughtful development, we may choose to provide a letter of support.
Our Approach
We take a balanced, constructive approach to every project.
We are:
-
Thoughtful in our evaluation
-
Practical in our feedback
-
Focused on outcomes
We are not opposed to development—we work to help make it better.
What We Evaluate
When reviewing a project, we typically consider:
Traffic & Infrastructure
How will the project impact traffic flow, access, and surrounding infrastructure?
Density & Scale
Is the size and intensity of the project appropriate for the area?
Open Space & Design
Does the project include adequate open space and thoughtful design elements?
Community Fit
Does the project align with the character and long-term vision of Deer Valley?
Long-Term Impact
Will this project contribute positively to the area over time?
