Friends of Deer Valley Spring Reception
April 29, 2026 | 5:00 PM
Barrio Brewing – 702 W Deer Valley Rd
On April 29, Friends of Deer Valley hosted its Spring Reception at Barrio Brewing Co. at the Deer Valley Airport, drawing an estimated 50–60 guests — members, neighbors, business owners, sponsors and community partners.
Â
The evening featured remarks from Phoenix Councilwoman Ann O’Brien and a special guest appearance by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, whose warm, informal remarks were a highlight of the night. Several longtime attendees noted it was the organization’s best reception yet.

The reception also celebrated FDV’s sponsors and the local schools it supports, including Paseo Hills (K–8) and Barry Goldwater High School. More broadly, it reflected FDV’s mission to advocate for economic development and improvements at and around the Deer Valley Airport while building a coalition of residents, property owners and businesses invested in the region’s future.

Friends of Deer Valley Reviews New Development Proposal
At its May board meeting, the Friends of Deer Valley board reviewed a proposed rezoning known as the Rose Garden Rezoning, located on roughly 16.5 acres off Rose Garden Road near the southwest corner of I-17, within the Your Valley Village area.
Â
Representatives from Snell & Wilmer presented on behalf of the applicant, the Garrett Companies. The site currently carries C-2 zoning with a mid-rise overlay dating to 1997 that permits buildings up to 190 feet; the applicant is seeking to replace that overlay with a height and density waiver allowing a four-story, 56-foot residential community of 336 units (about 20 dwelling units per acre). Planned amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, pool and dog parks, with primary access from 26th Avenue and no direct access off Rose Garden Road due to ADOT and topography constraints.

Friends of Deer Valley supports this project for several reasons, but primarily because it helps to fill the need for more affordable housing options in the Deer Valley area. Â

Community Clean Up Event
Friends of Deer Valley is partnering with Honor Health to host a Neighborhood Cleanup Day on Saturday, November 21 — the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  Volunteers will gather to help beautify the Deer Valley region, continuing FDV’s tradition of community stewardship.

The event builds on FDV’s ongoing commitment to a clean, vibrant neighborhood; in a previous cleanup, FDV partnered with Honeywell to clear 19th Avenue and Rose Garden Road, with Councilwoman Ann O’Brien and her staff joining volunteers on the ground. Residents, families and businesses are all invited to lend a hand — RSVP to info@friendsofdeervalley.com.
